Coco is Now Helping Blind and Partially Sighted Pedestrians Navigate City Sidewalks

Los Angeles-based Coco Robotics is partnering with BlindSquare, the world's most widely used GPS app for the blind and partially sighted, to share real-time sidewalk hazard data.

As Coco's fleet of ~1,000 delivery robots navigate city streets, they continuously log obstacles like fallen e-scooters and broken curb cuts. That data now flows directly into BlindSquare, which converts it into spoken alerts in 26 languages, warning users about hazards roughly 10 meters ahead.

The partnership launches across six cities: Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Jersey City, Helsinki, and Turku, and includes a two-way feedback loop where BlindSquare users can report when an obstacle has been cleared, updating Coco's routing maps in return.

It's a compelling example of how robots built to navigate obstacles can share information to improve the safety of the pedestrian space for others.
